Russia U18 at Ivan Hlinka Memorial at Breclav, Czech Republic
Russia U18 national hockey team (head coach Yuri Rumiantsev) placed 5th at Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament held in Czech Republic and Slovakia August 2010.
Young Russians fell to Finland in the opening game. Having scored first, they failed to increase the lead allowing two goals instead. However, toward the end of the game they did manage to equalize bringing the show to overtime and, later, to a penalty shoot-out where Finns were more successful.

In Game 2 Russia were a bit luckier beating U.S. peers, again on penalty shots.
Denis Perevozchikov of Ak Bars Kazan’ was now in goal for Russia. Young Americans won the first period 2-0. Second period started with a goal by Maksim Shalunov but soon U.S. 2 goals lead was reinstated. The period finished with 3-2 for U.S. team. Second catch-up goal for Russia was scored by Nail Yakupov.
Hard fought 3rd period saw Russia equalize and the game ended in a tie. Scoreless overtime brought the opposing teams to a penalty shootout where luck went to Russia thanks to winning shot by Igor Levicki

In Game 3 Russians, playing the home team Czech Rep. were off to a quick start scoring on Pavelka in the 1st minute from Blokhin assisted by Shubin. However, toward the mid period Czechs were ahead 1 goal. In the 10th minute Russia failed to score on two-men power play, allowing another goal instead, two minutes later. Regardless, Rumiantsev’s wardship never lost heart and, with 30 seconds remaining reduced the margin. 1,5 minutes toward the end of the regulation time Russia took a time-out but their fervent attacking effort led to nothing boiling down to a 2:3 defeat. Now Russia will only play for places 5 to 8 while Czech placing second in the group will face Canada in the semifinal.

In their last game of the tournament Russia beat Switzerland in a hard fought encounter 5:4. Ivaniuzhenkov made a double. Canada won the Ivan Hlinka Memorial beating U.S. 1-0 in the final.
